What is Megashares custom upload?
Megashares custom uploader is a java plugin that runs in your browser providing you the flexibility you need to upload any type of file and any number of files. You can copy/paste files into the applet and even drag entire folders on it!
Is Megashares free?
Yes, Megashares is completely free. In addition we have Link Cards for increased download service and we will soon offer a premium service.
Is there a limit on the number of times my file can be downloaded?
No! You can share your file with an unlimited number of people!
What is the maximum file size allowed?
Our single file size limit is 10GB when using our Custom Uploader, standard uploading max filesize is 1.5GB
Do I have to buy a Link Card to download, search, or upload large files?
No. While Link Cards provide you with many great benefits over our Free service, you still get access to all public links, the ability to search, and upload up to 10GB
Am I limited to a certain file size or daily limit without a Link Card?
No. We do not limit our users by file size or daily size amounts.
Why does my download stop and require me to reactivate my passport even when I have a large amount left available to download?
You are required to reactivate your passport when you use up your passport. That means even if your passport renews and has 250MB available, you can not use it until you reactivate it. In addition, as we analyze performance and monitor the health of our systems, we may need to set your passport to require reactivation.
Do you support download managers with your free service?
Yes. Megashares supports most all download managers. If you are using one that you believe is not working, please contact our support (please allow up to 3-5 business days for a response). Also note that free users are restricted to 1 download stream and 1 download link.
How long will my files remain on Megashares?
Your file will remain available through your unique download link as long as there is 1 unique download in 15 days and 10 unique downloads in 45 days which then restarts at the 45-day counter.
How do I share the file I just uploaded?
A link will appear in the center of the page after you successfully upload your file, you can use this link to easily share with whoever you want! Just simply copy & paste in a e-mail, forum post, or instant messenger conversation. You will also receive an email if you provided it as an option.
How do I delete a file I have uploaded to Megashares?
Always keep your delete link given to you after a file is uploaded in a safe place. This link allows you to delete your file at any time.
Why does it take so long to upload some files but not others?
Some home internet connections have slow upload speeds, this is not the fault of Megashares, large files can take long amounts of time to upload. If you are uploading an especially large file (20MB and up) you should use Megashares Custom uploads to ensure your file gets uploaded successfully.
Is my file confidential and private?
Absolutely, Megashares does not distribute any user information associated with files, uploads are completely anonymous and no one can see files uploaded by users unless you send them your unique file link or check the "Make my file searchable" checkbox upon upload. In addition every uploaded document is encrypted on our servers.
What are Link Cards and how do they work?

What is Megashares Search?
Megashares provides users the ability to search their own links, as well as other links that other Megashares users elect to be included in the search results. Link owners have the option to provide a password for their link so their link cannot be accessed through the search.
Cache Summary - Points, Levels, Money!
Megashares success comes from our users. You provide for us to host, saving you money and increasing your reach. At the same time this increases Megashares traffic. We would like to provide a way to encourage and prolong this relationship.
Points:
- You get 1 (one) cache point for every unique linkcard/premium download with a minimum 5MB filesize. Some users with high traffic sites have over 10,000 uniques a day!
- You get 250 cache points for every linkcard referral. (when a user buys a linkcard by hitting one of your links)
Levels:
- Level 1 is at 10,000 points. You can use these to get a linkcard good for 30 days.
- Level 2 is at 25,000 points. That gives you $100 paid through Paypal.**

Can I use FTP to Upload?
Using your favorite FTP client, you can sign in with your My Megashares account and upload files. These files will go directly into your My Megashares file manager. When you visit your My Megashares page, a notification will appear allowing you to confirm and process your FTP uploads.
Can I download or let my clients download from My Megashares FTP?
My Megashares FTP Uploads feature is for uploading only. We do not recommend sharing your My Megashares login information to clients or anyone.
I have a ftp server for my website. Do I have to download the files to my computer first and then upload them to My Megashares FTP?
Using My Megashares FTP Uploads' Site to Site feature, you can transfer the files you need to host by using a FTP Client that supports this feature as well. There are many clients available online to download for free, pay or trial use.
I tried to use the site to site feature but I get a "permission denied" error.
This feature requires a different FTP address: ftp.megashares.com:8921
Can I upload folders, my entire hard drive or website for backup?
Folder creation is not supported at this time. We are exploring other services that may include website and server backups.
I proceeded with the FTP notification in My Megashares and not I can not see the files in my FTP client.
Once your FTP content has been processed into your My Megashares, they are removed from your FTP listing. All editing, password enabling and other options are performed in your My Megashares account.
Please explain how to use FlashGet and other download managers with Megashares.
  1. login to megashares.com with your link card information (email + pin).
  2. Go to the download page for the link you wish to download. Or, if you have My Megashares you can use the direct download link or URL List view.
  3. If you are using Internet Explorer you can right-click on the "Click here to download" link and select 'download using flashget'. Other browsers it might be easier to right-click and copy the link to paste into Flashget (right-click and select New Download from the drop-zone or New download inside Flashget application).

    Other download managers work the same way, simply copy and paste the URL from "Click here to download" or direct download link from My Megashares and paste the URL into your download manager where it accepts URLs for downloading.

Note: you do not need to enter your link card login into Flashget or any other download manager.
